Find the Rhyme
Practise rhyme and word families with a choice activity.
Listen to ending sounds, find words that rhyme, and play with spoken word families through printable practice.

Rhyming words share the same final sound pattern, such as cat and hat. The opening sounds differ, but the endings sound alike. Listen to the whole spoken word rather than matching its first letter.
Find the Rhyme: Read or hear a target word and choose a word that rhymes. Do These Words Rhyme?: Listen to two words and decide whether their endings match.
Make a Rhyme: Say or write another rhyming word. The goal is to notice similar ending sounds; children can respond orally if they are not ready to spell the word independently.

Say the words aloud and stretch the ending sound naturally. Start with one example, then ask the child to find another word with the same ending sound. Spoken rhymes can be playful; nonsense words may also help practise hearing a pattern.
